School Board

Message from Chair, School Board

2017 was a very exciting time for Grovelands Primary School, having achieved Independent Public School status. This meant that the current School Council had to convert to the roles and responsibilities of a School Board. In doing that, we had to increase the number of parents and community members to meet the requirements. Now our board consists of three school staff, three parents and three community members. This provides the School with the freedom to make the best decisions for their students, in consultation with their community. Independent Public Schools remain part of the public school system of Western Australia and as such are expected to meet the obligations required of all public schools as set out by the Department of Education.

In the last 12 months the Board has been involved in ratifying the school budget, endorsing the school’s business and strategic plans, analysing NAPLAN data and sharing in discussion about programs provided by external agencies.

It has been a rewarding experience to serve as the Board Chair and I would like to thank all members for their input and contributions throughout the year. I would also like to acknowledge the work of the two outgoing members, Mrs Robin Hannah and Mrs Cathy Roberts. Their efforts are greatly appreciated.

We look forward to 2018 and working together to achieve the best outcomes for our students.

Mrs Michelle Ninyette
School Board Chair
